Benefits of Virtualisation in current climate
Posted by Vector Resourcing on Thursday 26 March 2009The benefits of virtualisation have been well documented. Reducing the quantity of physical servers, and consolidating both data centres and desktops, enabling IT Departments to save money yet still deliver services more quickly.
In addition to cost savings, reducing a company’s carbon footprint is another incentive to implement virtual IT infrastructures, and with Green IT becoming an increasingly popular theme among many businesses, I believe we will see a continued uptake of technologies such as VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenDesktop/App/Server and Cloud Computing.
Above all, however, in the current economic climate, where new technology implementations are being considered by decision makers at board level, it is surely those IT projects which can demonstrably lead to significant operational cost savings, which will appear most attractive. As such, Virtualisation will continue to be seen as the obvious solution for forward-thinking and prudent businesses alike.
