The latest jobs report from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG highlights the continuing upward trend for the UK jobs market and shows IT and computer professionals to be the most sought after in the UK.

Permanent staff are the in the highest demand at present with the report stating that 'IT and computing' was the fastest growing sector for permanent jobs in the UK, but there has also been an increase in contract roles too.The REC report showed particular demand for those with skills in Microsoft SharePoint, analysis, project management and software testing.

We have seen demand for IT professionals continue to steadily rise over the last six months as companies look to drive business forward and fill gaps left by headcount reductions early last year and with IT at the heart of every business it is no surprise that IT is now at the forefront of the UK recovery.

The new financial year has also started so many IT projects are now getting off the ground including those which were put on hold during the recession. However, there is still an air of caution due to the political and economic uncertainty caused by the forthcoming general election in May, which at its worst could see the UK re-enter recession, but for the moment, the outlook for those in IT remains positive.
