Finding the rare expertise that transforms projects

The brief

Edmundson Electrical needed an HR Systems Implementation Consultant – a niche role that was critical to their HR and Payroll transformation. The consultant would take the technical lead on implementing the new iTrent system, support the Payroll Project team with verification and configuration, and provide onsite training and live running support through key periods including profit share and Tax Year End.

The challenge

This wasn’t just about hiring technical expertise. EEL needed someone who could transfer knowledge, configure the system, and act as a subject matter expert long after go-live. The challenge was that this level of specialist experience in iTrent implementations was rare – and in high demand.

The search

Mark Cassé, our Senior Contract Consultant, identified a contractor who had only just finished a similar project and wasn’t yet fully active on the market. By engaging them early, we were able to secure their interest – not just in the role itself, but in the opportunity to bring their expertise to a new sector and new challenge.

The result

The consultant joined EEL and quickly became a vital member of the team. Their impact has been long-term:

  • Supporting the initial rollout of iTrent.
  • Ensuring full knowledge transfer so the system could be maintained in-house.
  • Acting as SME as EEL rolled out further modules, including Manager and Employee Self Service.
  • Four years on, this contractor remains central to EEL’s HR and Payroll solution, proving the value of specialist expertise secured at the right time.
