Our work: Case study

Building digital strength for the future

The challenge

The RSPB needed to deliver a series of major technology programmes – from modernising their cloud infrastructure to transforming their public-facing website. Each programme demanded specialist skills, often niche, and senior leaders who could drive delivery across complex initiatives.

The challenge wasn’t just scale. It was about securing the right mix of expertise at the right time: technical specialists to deliver immediate change, alongside interim leaders to provide stability, direction, and resilience in critical areas of technology.

The approach

We partnered with the RSPB across multiple programmes and senior hires, working as an extension of their team. Our support included:

  • CRM Programme – Project Manager, testing specialists, and development resource.
  • Senior hires – Interim Head of PMO, Interim Head of Delivery, and Development Manager.
  • Cloud transformation – DevOps Engineers, Infrastructure Engineers, and a Consultant to embed new ways of working in Azure.
  • Website transformation – Lead Engineer, Programme Manager, and Project Manager, enabling a new eCommerce platform and full digital content overhaul.
  • Disaster Recovery Programme – Project Manager and Architect to strengthen resilience and deliver a full Data Centre Migration.

Throughout, we focused on four things:

  • Taking time to deeply understand the RSPB’s culture and priorities.
  • Running targeted searches to secure even the most niche technical skills.
  • Offering flexibility on contracts and extensions to adapt to shifting needs.
  • Building a collaborative, long-term partnership with their technology leadership.

The result

  • These appointments enabled the RSPB to deliver ambitious digital change on multiple fronts:
  • A modernised cloud platform through successful Azure adoption.
  • A completely rebuilt website, including a new eCommerce platform and digital content overhaul.
  • Strengthened resilience through a robust disaster recovery programme and data centre migration.
  • Senior leadership capacity secured in PMO and Delivery, ensuring lasting governance and direction.

The outcome was more than a set of successful hires. It was future-facing capability embedded in the RSPB, underpinned by a trusted partnership that continues to evolve as their digital agenda grows.

Client view

“The Digital Department at the RSPB has had a long relationship with Vector Resourcing over the years and I have personally been involved as the key contact for that relationship over the last 6. For me as a customer what makes them unique to others who I have worked with over my last 30 years in IT is:

Melissa Werry, Head of Technology Services, explained why the partnership works:

  • The time they spend getting to understand you as a business.
  • Their ability to find even some of the most niche skills.
  • Their ability to find the right cultural fit for the organisation.
  • Their flexibility in terms of contract extensions and their support when plans change.
  • Their care for their own organisation, many of their staff have been there for years and recruitment is a fickle market, people don’t stay unless the ethos is good.

They are always looking to improve what they do and as a customer they have recently reached out about how to better reflect their unique offering through their website. This real focus on customer service rather than just sales is what I believe makes them unique and I would have no hesitation in recommending them to others.”
